“We all, like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6
Commentary: No verse in all of Scripture describes the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins by Jesus better than this one. This verse describes the reality that every person is a sinner. No one is by nature exempt from the nature inside us that causes us to rebel. And each person is an active rebel. We have all acted out on our rebellious nature. But the good news, the wonderful message of the gospel, is that God has made a way for us to be freed from the debt we owe. God the Father placed our sin on God the Son as a guilt offering that would be a satisfactory payment. Jesus took our place. He was the substitute Lamb of God that takes away our sin.
Prayer: Thank you Father for your wonderful plan to provide a way to pay for my sin. Jesus, I will never be able to repay you for what you did for me. But I believe you were the perfect sacrifice. You came as a substitute, you took my place, so that I could spend eternity with you. Thank you Holy Spirit for giving me eyes to see and a heart that could understand that Jesus died for me and that through him as my substitute, I have eternal life. Through the name and work of Jesus I pray. Amen.
