Witnessing and Assurance Memory Verse V

“I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will go in and eat with him and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20.

Commentary:  In Jesus’ day, to share a meal was a clear sign of peace and harmony between people.  You never ate with an enemy.  To sit down and eat together was a mark of real fellowship.

In this verse we see that Jesus takes the initiative in a relationship with us.  He always pursues us.  He knocks.  What a glorious truth.  But it is also true that we are to open the door and let him in.  He will not break down the door, but he is always ready to come and meet with those who sincerely desire his presence.

Prayer:  Dear Jesus,  I am so thankful that you are always pursuing me.  I confess I am often deaf to your knocking at the door of my heart, but you never give up.  May my desire be to experience your presence more and more in my life.

In your Name, Amen.
