Witnessing and Assurance Memory Verse T

These things have been written so that you may know that you have eternal life.”  I John 5:13.

Commentary:  Throughout Christian history there have been preachers and denominations that teach that you can’t know for certain that you are going to heaven.  This mistaken position denies what is stated in this passage of Scripture.  I John is written to those who have fellowship “with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ (1:3)”.  The context is not universal salvation, but written to those who have put their trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord.  It is John’s desire that believers have the assurance that they are safe and secure in Jesus through faith.  This faith is secured by the absolute truth of the inspired Word of God.  Inspired writers guided by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21), have written a principle that gives believers confidence, joy and hope.  And for these things and this verse, I am extremely thankful.

Prayer:  Father, Thank you for giving us in the Scripture such a clear statement that the Bible tells us that those who have Jesus in their heart, are safe and secure.  Thank you that we have your Word not only written on our heart, but also on the printed page.  Help us to learn that you want your children to live secure, resting in the finished work of Jesus.  In whose name I pray, Amen.
